Environmental Permit Guidance:

We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Management and Development of waste management facilities. Since the inception of the IPPC permitting system, we have assisted in the development of both exempt and permitted operations in numerous areas of the waste management sector. These include:

• ELV (End of Life Vehicles).
• WEEE ATF, AATF & T11 facilities
• Transfer & treatment Facilities
• Scrap Metals Facilities

We have developed the working Site plans, documentation and training necessary for the operation of a Permitted facility, demonstrating the necessary commitment of Management level staff to the correct operation of a facility. These include:

• Internal Staff Training in the Management of Wastes and Health and Safety
• The Development and Deployment of Internal Environmental Systems compliant with Permit Applications
• Site waste Management plans and development of Operational activites
• Instruction in the operation of a Permitted facility in accordance with Permit Rules
• Dealing with contraries, hazardous wastes and potential reagents
• Development of a Health and Safety system.

These core aspects encompass the key requisites to maintaining and Environmental Permit and form the basis of Permitting Regulations. They must be further underpinned through the furthering of knowledge and gaining of Operator Competency, as well as maintaining a record of continuing competency through periodic examination.

Obtaining an Environmental Permit

An environmental Permit is granted by the Environment Agency (England & Wales). However, obtaining a permit requires considerable up-front work, that goes far beyond the completion of an application. The process, which takes a minimum of 8 weeks, can stretch considerably, thanks in part to the need for Prior Planning approval. Other factors can significantly impinge upon the application process itself and we can guide you through these stages as well.

For potential clients that fall outside of the standard permit route, our experience is also available to assist you in developing the more rigorous processes needed to comply with and obtain a Bespoke Environmental Permit. These permits are required for industrial sectors and treatment facilities that handle certain materials, including:

• Radioactive Substances
• Certain farm wastes
• Mining and Minerals
• The Printing Industry
• Clinical Wastes
• Chemicals & Petrochemicals

We have extensive knowledge of the planning process, gained in part through prior experience in the Waste Management sector and in part through the Construction/ Civils sector.
